ACT ON THE WORD

ACT ON THE WORD

Scripture Reading: Matthew 14:22-29

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. Matthew 14:28-29

The impossible happens when we are willing to act on the instructions in God’s Word. The outstanding miracle of Peter walking on water happened He saw Jesus doing so and thought He could too. Many times, faith is stirred when we see the great things God has done in the lives of others. When we hear testimonies of how someone believed God and received a miracle, it strengthens our faith to believe God as well.

What do we learn from the passage?

Peter’s request. “Lord, if it is You, command me to come…”. For a fisherman to make such an audacious request, fully aware of the dangers of the sea and the risk of drowning, speaks volumes of Peter’s faith. Peter predicated his request on the condition that it was coming from Jesus. Once we can validate that an action is from God, then we can lay claim on it. You can ask God and He will confirm if something is of Him or not.
Jesus’ command. Interestingly, the only instruction Jesus gave to Peter was “come.” A simple one-word response to Peter’s request was the key to doing the supernatural. Many times people seek the details of how God is going to do what He has promised. But what He expects is for us to trust the simple response or command He has given. Just like Peter you can also ‘walk on water’ if you just hold on to God’s word.

Peter’s action. With remarkable trust, Peter climbed out of the boat on the authority of Jesus’ word, stepped on the water and began walking on it. He left the security of the boat and walked to Jesus. Peter teaches us that you can conquer what confronts you by acting on God’s word.

When faced with an impossible task, an assignment no one has ever attempted, we can either step out in faith, trust His word and achieve the impossible or remain in our comfort zone and never experience the supernatural. Believe and act on God’s word.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, your Word is living and active. By faith I step out from the natural into the supernatural. In Jesus name, Amen!
